Stormcloud and Droplets: What's in a name?

Stormcloud users will notice a new look and branding on our app and web interface, and may be asking 'Why is it called Stormcloud?'

The idea behind Stormcloud comes from a large cloud that delivers rain to sweep the sky clean, bringing renewal and growth. The clouds are made up of very small droplets of liquid which have evaporated from the earth and coalesced. These droplets fall from the sky when clouds are saturated, releasing water back into the earth.

This is the connection between Stormcloud and Droplets.

With capabilities emanating from Stormcloud, Droplets connect with houses, office buildings or manufacturing facilities around the world that are fitted with distributed energy resources (DER) such as rooftop solar and batteries, community solar, community batteries to EV charging infrastructure.

Droplets transmit data to Stormcloud, a smart, digital platform developed by SwitchDin that securely connects DER from anywhere on the grid and makes them more secure and efficient. With Stormcloud and Droplets, you can connect, control and communicate with most types and brands of assets, delivering more information and more clean, efficient energy than ever before.

SwitchDin’s vision is to enable the transition to clean, efficient and resilient distributed energy services for all. We’re fulfilling this vision by giving energy companies the tools they need to securely integrate and manage distributed energy resources, and we count some of the most prominent retailers and network operators in Australia among our key partners. Stormcloud and Droplets are the key elements of our technology that allow SwitchDin to do this.
